Robert M. Sherfy is Senior Counsel in the Bakersfield office of Borton Petrini, LLP. Bob graduated summa cum laude from Fresno State University in 1975, and received his Juris Doctorate in 1978. Bob spent 30 years in municipal practice. During the 1980’s, Bob served as the City Attorney for the City of Maricopa. He spent two years as Deputy County Counsel in the Kern County Counsel’s office, and the last 28 years as Deputy City Attorney in the Bakersfield City Attorney’s office. Bob served as the number two person in the City Attorney’s office for 10 years, and on two occasions served as acting City Attorney.

During his tenure with the Bakersfield City Attorney’s office, Bob successfully tried several police misconduct cases and represented the City in a variety of personnel hearings. Bob also served as the employment law attorney for the City for approximately eight years.

Over the last five years, Bob served as the land use attorney for the City and attended all Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Adjustment meetings. Bob and members of City staff met with developers to discuss and implement solutions to land use issues. He monitored all land use litigation and assisted in resolving a number of land use lawsuits.

Bob drafted contracts for the Public Works Department, Recreation and Parks Department, Finance Department, Planning Department, and other City divisions. He also drafted resolutions, ordinances and opinions for the City Council and various departments and attended numerous City Council meetings.

Bob is a member of the State Bar of California and the Kern County Bar Association.

Bob is an avid San Francisco Giants fan and enjoys running, swimming and working out. He is married to Mary Sherfy, who works locally in the medical field, and is the father of two sons.
