William H. Cantrell was a Partner of Borton Petrini, LLP,
located in the Bakersfield office. He received his undergraduate degree
in Business and Public Administration from California State University,
Bakersfield, in 1973, and attended law school at the University of California,
Los Angeles. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1976, and the
Alaska State Bar in 1978. He has been involved in litigation his entire career.
Before coming to the Firm, he practiced law in both Los Angeles and Alaska,
working on a wide range of cases. In the course of his 28 years of practice,
Bill has handled a variety of matters. His litigation background is broad and
has varied over the years. He has handled health care, fraud, corporate and
partnership dissolution matters, banking, and employment matters on both local
and federal levels. He has been responsible for a variety of professional
liability matters involving health care providers, and claims under directors
and officers policies. He has also represented health care providers in
transactional and litigation matters.
Along with his busy practice, Bill regularly participates in and organizes
seminars, dealing with pertinent and developing legal issues. Bill was National
Coordinating Counsel for a national insurance company for labor and employment
claims and for Y2K matters. He also is an author and legal editor, having
written such articles as “Mary Carter Agreements: An Unfair Agreement to Paint
Over the Truth,” Verdict Legal Journal, Spring 1984 issue. He also is past
Editor-In-Chief, California Defense Journal, 1989-1998, a statewide distributed
publication discussing and analyzing insurance defense issues, and resumed his
position in 2003.
When he takes a break from his busy legal schedule, he
continually tries to reduce his handicap and spends time with his family.
He is married to Michele Cantrell, and they have one son, Billy.
Mr. Cantrell retired from Borton, Petrini in 2007.
