While the economy has improved, the Governor has not increased funding to the judiciary to pre-recession levels. Many counties have seen a reduction in funding, reduction of staff, increased times to process paper, etc. Court reporters are no longer provided for many hearings. In Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties, for example, parties must provide their own court reporter for trial. However, some counties are guaranteeing date certain for trials. Some are not.
Increased trial court delays will need to be included in the overall evaluation of any file.
