Borton Petrini’s Community Spotlight

Cal Stead of Borton Petrini, LLP has been an active member of the Kern Home Builders Association for approximately 25 years. Currently, Cal is the secretary of the Board of Directors for this non-profit.  Cal recently took some time to share with us just how rewarding this experience has been.

Why did you first get involved with the Kern Home Builders Association?

I first became involved to encourage new home construction in Bakersfield, CA and to provide legal input to the board.

What inspires you the most about Kern Home Builders Association’s work?

The commitment to reasonably priced, new homes for everyone is a huge inspiration for me.

What is your most memorable moment with Kern Home Builders Association?

It is a tie between my election to the Board of Directors and serving as a liaison to the Chamber of Commerce, Kern County Taxpayers Association and the stakeholders group of the Bakersfield Habitat Conservation Plan and Project Clean Air.

What are ways that members of the community can support this organization?

Continue to vote for and elect city  council members that favor reasonable home prices and streamlined permitting  over fees and taxes on new homeowners.

Is this your only community involvement?

I served for many years on the California Building Industry Association legal advisory committee, and I have helped revise the bylaws of the local branch on multiple occasions and advise the Board on Brown Act issues and environmental issues that come up from time to time.  I am also a past director of the Kern County Taxpayers Association, a past president of the Sonoma County Taxpayers Association, past Santa Rosa West Rotary Member, past Bakersfield South Rotary member, legal advisor to Project Clean Air, legal advisor to Kern Economic Development Corporation and I was a voting member of the Bakersfield Greater Chamber of Commerce Government Review Committee for 15 years.
